Waverley Kindergarten offers a warm nurturing environment, where tamariki are encouraged to build empathy for people, places, and things. We strive to provide equal opportunities for all learners. Kaiako are intentional in their teaching and deliver rich learning experiences to all.

We are part of the Enviroschools programme and use an ecological lens throughout our programme to highlight how we can care for people, places and things. This learning is extended by using our amazing natural playground to investigate and explore. We have been part of the Enviroschools programme for over ten years, and we make it a priority to all learn together how we can build on our sustainable practices.

Our outdoor environment provides many opportunities for curiosity and wonder about the natural world. We have a strong emphasis on active movement. At the back of our kindergarten, we have a tunnel house and fruit orchard, where tamariki can work with a kaiako in a small group learning growing and harvesting. Our large inside area provides many opportunities to play and explore.

Kaiako are intentional with the resources that are provided to ensure tamariki feel a sense of belonging and fun, as well as extending on prior learning. We encourage and role model kindness to others. Kaiako play alongside tamariki to encourage their social and emotional development.

Waverley Kindergarten’s community is made up of a variety of cultures. We embrace and celebrate this by encouraging everyone to share their culture in a variety of ways so we can learn from each other. Te ao Māori is integral within our programme as we recognise Aotearoa’s dual heritage. Polyfest and Polyfest Art are regular features of our programme.

We would love to hear from you if you think Waverley Kindergarten sounds like a great place for your child to learn and grow. You are more than welcome to call in to meet the kaiako and check out our learning environment.

Head Teacher

Sheree Condon

Kia ora, I started working for Kindergartens South in 1994 as a young graduate kaiako. I have experience working in a variety of kindergartens across Southland and have a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education from Otago University. My career was put on hold after nine years to start a family. I started at Waverley Kindergarten in 2012 and have held the Head Kaiako position since 2013. I have been very lucky to have a stable team that share common beliefs about the best learning outcomes for tamariki. My passions include music, literacy, and environmental learning. I also enjoy working with whānau, offering advice and support where I can.
