Taiao Tūhura – Discovering Nature, Enviroschools, Weekly physical activity sessions. Local visitors from our community

We view our tamariki as competent and capable and aim to offer a holistic approach to learning. We offer a physically challenging programme where tamariki will have fun, exploring and making discoveries in our large natural environment. We value the knowledge and contributions that our wider kindergarten whānau bring to our kindergarten and seek to have meaningful collaboration with whānau.

We enjoy being able to support the learning of our tamariki in our large, unhurried, and relaxed setting. We have designed our outdoor environment to provide opportunities for tamariki of all ages and abilities to explore and be challenged. We have recently added a new bike track to our outdoor environment, and our tamariki are loving this new addition. We routinely change our learning environment to best support the needs and interests of the tamariki, supporting them to work collaboratively to build on their social competency skills and to develop their resilience through their play in indoor and outdoor settings.

We have a real team approach to learning and aim to get to know you and your child well so that together we can achieve the best possible learning outcomes for children. We enjoy supporting tamariki to develop the necessary skills for the next stage of their learning journey, so they leave kindy as capable and confident learners who are ready to take on new challenges.

We love to celebrate events that are culturally significant to our country and our tamariki as we investigate local, national and international events and celebrations. We participate in Polyfest each year and this is always a highlight. We value opportunities to learn from each other as we celebrate the diversity within our kindergarten.

If you want to see what fun your child could have with us at Waikiwi Kindergarten, please feel free to call in, take a look around, and meet our team. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the kindergarten and the amazing experiences your child could have during their time here.

Paula McDonald

I have been a kaiako at Waikiwi Kindergarten since April 2016 and Head Kaiako since March 2020. My favourite thing about Waikiwi Kindergarten has to be the most amazing learning environment that we are able to offer. The outdoor environment is beautiful, natural and spacious, just perfect for exploring and getting busy. We use both our indoor and outdoor to support the holistic development of tamariki, this is what I believe makes the kindergarten the special place that it is.
