Haere mai, Namaste, welcome to Longford Kindergarten. Longford is an inviting space for tamariki to learn and grow together – we love to play at Longford Kindergarten!

Learning that we value at Longford Kindergarten is Mahi tahi – working together, Mana aotūroa/exploration, Kaitiakitanga/caring and nurturing, Mana reo/communication, Whānaungatanga/relationships and Manaakitanga/respect.

Our award- winning outdoor playground features natural spaces designed to invite tamariki to make discoveries, provoke wonder, inspire curiosity and to engage them in developing working theories of the world they live in. Our indoor environment provides inviting spaces for tamariki to explore in small and large groups.

Our kindergarten whakataukī embraces how tamariki have the agency to drive our programme bringing all their knowledge, fascinations, and wonderment that they have about the world that they live in. We are proud of our programme where tamariki are responsible to take ownership of their learning through play in an unhurried way. Tamariki respond each day by exploring and showing their Mana whenua – belonging within our Kindergarten whare. Tamariki are given time to make choices, to be caring and show awhi and aroha to each other, to be playful, curious and creative and to use their imaginations!

Kaiako and tamariki love connecting with our whānau and community through celebrating cultural events such as Matariki, Diwali, Chinese New Year and entering a float in the Annual Gore Christmas Parade.

Our Taiao Tūhura (Bush Kindy) programme at Dolamore Park and Enviroschools mahi continue to support our kaitiakitanga learning. Our Bush Kindy and kindergarten spaces are inspiring tamariki to become curious of the world that they live in and to take care of Papatūānuku.

The teaching team at Longford are passionate, enthusiastic, nurturing, and caring kaiako with a collective knowledge of children’s learning and development to support your child to learn and grow.

We welcome you to come along to visit to meet the team and see our programme in action!

Head Teacher

Megan Hunter

Kia ora tautou – I have been part of the Kindergartens South team for 25 years especially teaching in the Māruawai community. I started off as a teacher and then moved into a Head Teacher’s role in 2010 when Longford Kindergarten opened. My passions as a kaiako for teaching and learning include social and emotional learning, place-based education, Kaitiakitanga, and relationships between people, places and things which are nourished and nurtured within our learning community.
