Kia ora and welcome to Kew Kindergarten. We are a kindy tucked away in South City with a huge focus on ako/learning through play and kindness alongside our whānau and community. Kew has an amazing indoor and outdoor learning area which is homely and welcoming.

The three threads that weave the language, culture and identity of tamariki and whānau at Kew Kindergarten are: Bucket filling, Mana reo/communication, Enviroschools Kaupapa. These three threads are the driving force of our waka which guides nga tamariki as they navigate their learning journey. Achieving success in being kind, caring, confident communicators who look after themselves, each other and their environments. This learning philosophy guides our ako and our everyday teaching practice. We are authentic, love a laugh and use every moment as an opportunity to problem solve, learn, grow and explore!

Routine, rhythm and repetition are the main pillars of our learning approach along with our kawa. Kawa is the routine, rituals and protocols that makes Kew Kindergarten Kew. It is our Bucket Filling – kind things we say and do. It is Mana reo/communication – expressing ourselves using all our senses as well as the arts and active movement. It is enviro-school kaupapa – looking after ourselves, each other and our kindergarten. We believe in tamariki learning through their play. Kaiako mahi alongside tamariki to play and ako together.

Kew values and enacts the sense of Ūkaipōtanga – that everyone is secure in the knowledge that they have a place where they find themselves, their strength and their energy. That they have a place where they belong, where they count and where they can contribute. This value underpins our whānau, when you join Kew you become part of our whānau and we value exactly who you are and what you bring.

Come in and see what Kew Kindy has for your tamaiti and whānau. Have a cuppa, a korero and meet us. Or ring, text or email – we look forward to meeting you.

Jena King

Kia ora e te whānau.

Ko Jena King toku ingoa.

My Kindergarten journey started 13 years ago as a Mum when my two tamariki attended Rockdale Park Kindergarten. It was here I learnt that this was the sector in which I wished to study and teach. I attended university locally and graduated in 2017 and went straight into Kindergartens South Head Office to become a reliever. Since then, I have taught in many kindergartens across Southland, growing, teaching and learning alongside hundreds of tamariki, kaiako and whānau all while refining my teaching kawa along the way. I am now proud to be the new Head Kaiako at Kew Kindergarten, bringing with me my principles around relationships, social and emotional competency, kaitiakitanga, whanaungatanga and diversity, and I look forward to growing and flowing with our community here.

Nau mai haere ki te Kew Kindergarten, come check out our space and see if it’s for you too.
