At Elston Lea Kindergarten we have a strong focus on Hauora, including spiritual, physical, mental and family wellbeing. We place high value on the meaningful connections we create between tamairki, whānau and the wider community.
Our vision is to develop connections with our natural environment – kaitiakitanga. Tamariki have the opportunity to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs in our veggie garden and tunnel house. We strive to provide opportunities for the tamariki to develop a strong sense of identity and confidence in who they are – whakamana.
We take a play-based approach to learning, we provide child-led experiences on a daily basis through our daily routines and rituals. Strong reciprocal relationships between the children and the teachers are evident when you walk through our doors. Our kindergarten is a calm and relaxed place where children can learn and grow at their own pace.
We have a large park-like playground which encourages children’s imaginations, physical fitness and social skills. The children are encouraged to play and learn with and alongside others as they explore open-ended learning opportunities and experiences that are changed weekly, based on the children’s interests. We place high value on independence and encourage the children to take responsibility for their own belongings, this empowers them and enhances their mana.
We have diverse families/whānau and are passionate about making everyone feel part of our place. We are a place where culture and language are valued, and self-identity is enhanced for all. We have a diverse range of cultures within our kindergarten, and this enriches the learning for everyone. We embrace diversity and the uniqueness that comes with it.
Parents and whānau are most welcome to visit at any time and see what happens at our kindergarten and meet our friendly team. We have an open-door policy and invite you to view our programme and environment in action at a time that suits you.
I have been teaching for 12 years. During this time, I have worked for Kindergartens South Association in various kindergartens in Invercargill. I have been a part of the Elston Lea community since 2016.
I became an early childhood teacher because growing up in a large family there were always children around and as I got older, I was the one caring for them, this made we want to do it for a career. I have a passion for the outdoors and believe that it is our role to protect and nurture our environment. I like to ensure the child’s independent personalities are supported and I am working at the child’s level, being respectful, kind and making sure there is always fun in learning. Supporting tamariki to grow and learn is amazing and so rewarding as not only do the tamariki grow as learners the tamariki support my learning also so we are growing and learning together.
Many of our kindergartens have spaces available right now. Please email us for more information.
