Clarendon Kindergarten is in a quiet culdesac in Kingswell Invercargill, located closely to the hospital and industrial businesses on the way to Bluff.  Relationships with our parents, whānau and learning community are at the core of our programme and we strive to remove barriers to attendance and learning for all tamariki.

Our programme empowers active exploration, ako (learning together) and celebrating magical moments. The kindergarten kaupapa values and empowers independence, whanaungatanga and manaakitanga. Through meaningful connections and relationships kaiako empower tamariki to see themselves as capable and competent contributors with a positive sense of identity as learners.

We have an expansive outdoor play area which provides endless opportunities for learning through play and exploration. Our natural environment provides lots of sensory experiences empowering and fostering independence, resilience, and curiosity and supports our journey as an Enviroschool kindergarten. Our indoor play space is open and uncluttered to support a calm and unhurried play and learning space.

Kaiako provide an environment that empowers a strong sense of tūrangawaewae (belonging) for tamariki, their whānau and their community and ensure these aspirations and cultures are reflected in our environment and our kaupapa.

Our kindergarten environment provides opportunities for tamariki to explore with their senses, to try new things and to take risks with their play and learning. Tamariki are empowered to challenge their ideas and working theories, to problem solve and to persevere with difficulty. Kaiako encourage opportunities for tuakana teina and ako, celebrating each other’s skills and interests, learning from and alongside others.

The doors at Clarendon Kindergarten are always open and the jug is always ready! Here at Clarendon, we have an open-door policy, one of our kaiako will be available to chat before and after session and if not, we will make a time that suits.

Get in touch today and organise a visit to see our amazing kindergarten in action. Come along, meet the team, and have a coffee while your tamaiti explores our beautiful kindergarten.

Head Teacher

Rachel Adam

I have been Head Kaiako at Clarendon for a little over two years now. Clarendon has been on a journey of growth over the past two years, reestablishing ourselves in the community and growing our roles.

I am enthusiastic about all tamariki having access to quality early childhood education in New Zealand and as a kindergarten being able to meet the ever changing needs of our learning community.

I am passionate about removing or limiting any barriers to attendance or to learning for tamariki and their whānau, utilising resources, and funding to support whānau to access and attend kindergarten.

I am enthusiastic about furthering my learning and strengthening my teaching strategies and kete for supporting neurodiverse tamariki in our kindergarten setting.
