Winton Kindergarten

Kia ora welcome to Winton Kindergarten, we are a local kindergarten in the heart of Southland. We have special connections to our land and to our community. We welcome all whānau to our kindergarten. Nau mai haere mai!!

When you arrive at Winton Kindergarten, we hope that you feel at ease and feel welcome. We know that children learn best when your whole whānau feels safe, supported, and connected. We learn through play and at Winton Kindergarten we learn through The Arts. We use The Arts to deepen our learning and to explore and make sense of our world.

We view the environment as the ‘third teacher’. We intentionally create an environment to engage and stimulate meaningful learning that is inclusive of children’s interests, language, culture, and identity. Our environment is a reflection of our core values of Te Ao Māori and Enviroschools. We learn Kaitiaki values through our connections to our environment.

The Mīharo Polyfest calendar informs our curriculum design, from the visual arts to the performing arts Polyfest. We run a daily Kapa Haka session in terms 2 and 3. Term 4 sees our annual Amazing Me programme. We learn about all things from road safety to developing social and emotional competencies – we have a strong focus on Health and Wellbeing. Every Tuesday our 10 oldest tamariki head out to demonstrate kaitiakitanga in the community. Our Taiao Tuhura is an integral part of our curriculum and learning is reflected in our Forest Kindy children’s ecological journals.

We use Story Park to share learning experiences, newsletters, and magical moments from your child’s kindergarten experience.
