Kia ora koutou te whānau, Bluff Kindergarten is located in the heart of our port town, within close proximity to both local schools. As well as the shipping activities, fishing is a major industry in our town. Our catchment area also includes tamariki from the rural surrounds of Bluff. We have a strong passion for Te Ao Māori and speaking and upholding the tikanga and te reo. Bluff Kindergarten celebrate and cherish the uniqueness of its location and foster strong relationships in our community.

Learning should be an adventure and our kaiako are dedicated to providing a stimulating and challenging environment for the tamariki in our community. Tamariki are encouraged to explore, create, experiment and interact with the whenua, Atua and the people of Motupōhue.

We have a spacious, open, indoor environment that is filled with exciting resources and experiences for tamariki to explore. Attached is a large conservatory which acts as a warm sun trap in the summer where we grow all of our kai and herbs, then in the colder months it becomes our messy play, experiment area. We have an ataahua outside environment with many big trees that are a home for all of the native manu. There is a large playground with swings, a slide, monkey bars and we even have our famous kindy waka which came from a past fishing whānau. At Bluff Kindy we don’t believe in bad weather just bad clothing so we ensure that we have wet weather gear, gumboots and hats for each tamaiti.

Bluff Kindergarten is a warm, fun and inclusive environment. Kaiako are passionate about nurturing the mana and wairua of all tamariki.

Nau mai haere mai e te Whānau to Bluff Kindergarten, we invite you to come and meet our kaiako and tamariki, have a hot cuppa and explore our awesome environment.

I have the pleasure of being a Kaiwhakahaere in my hometown which has enabled me to build and foster rich relationships within the time that I have been working in Motupōhue (7 years). I have been teaching for the Southland Kindergarten Association for 10 years and love working in early childhood. Being by the moana and close to my Marae as well as working at the kindy that I myself attended many years ago gives me such pleasure in going to mahi every day. I pride myself on creating environments rich in whanaungatanga and aroha and welcome anyone to come along and have a korero and visit with the tamariki and kaiako of Bluff Kindergarten.
