In relation to COVID-19 Kindergartens South takes its advice from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and continues to communicate this through our network of 23 Kindergartens.
As well as focusing on good hygiene practices we have chosen to reduce our excursions, cancel whānau nights and the ability to use the kindergarten outside of hours.
Key messages we have received from the Ministry of Education:
- The Medical Officer of Health has the authority to direct schools to close, should that be required. Until there is a confirmed case in a school or ECE, there is no health requirement for staff or students to self-isolate. Once a case is confirmed, only the close contacts of the case need to self-isolate and Health will contact people to confirm that.

o Close contacts and contact tracing
- We are working closely with Health in accordance with the protocols we have established. Health are the best source of COVID 19 information in New Zealand. If you have queries regarding health issues, from your staff or parent communities, please refer them to Healthline 0800 358 5453 (translators are available) for guidance.
- Schools, early learning services and their communities will be contacted if there are any changes.
We have 23 kindergartens throughout Southland that require lawns to be mowed, gardens to be kept tidy and some general tasks related to the upkeep of buildings.
As the current contract we have for this work is due to expire, we are now inviting expressions of interest to quote for this work.
Kia ora whānau. Some of our whānau are choosing to continue distance learning during COVID-19 Alert Level 2 and we are committed to ensuring there continues to be distance learning experiences shared from Kindergartens South. At the start of each week you will find some learning experience ideas you can enjoy at home here on the Kindergartens South website.
